Dunlop DBFS45125 Medium Super Bright stainless Flatwound

The more versatile flatwound bass strings ?

The more versatile flatwound bass strings ?

I have tried a lot of flatwound bass strings since I started to appreciate that kind of sound, several of them bought from Lord of The Strings (thanks to Carl). The Dunlop are the more versatile ones for my taste. I have several five strings fretted basses and two fretless 4 strings ones, all of them now strung with flatwounds. I also appreciate the D'addario Chromes, the D'addario half round, the Gallistrings, the Ernie Ball Cobalt, the Thomastik Jazz Flat, the La Bella Deep Talking, the La Bella White Nylon, the La Bella White Nylon Gold and the La Bella Gold Flats. I do not like the DR Legend nor the Ernie Ball stainless. Searching for the right strings set type on each bass is something I systematically do when getting a new bass. My Ibanez SRH500F sounds Best with D'addario half round, La Bella White Nylon Gold, La Bella White Nylon, the D'addario Chromes and the Thomastik Jazz Flats. My Zon Sonus and my Moscato Shotgun with these Dunlop, my Edwards with Gallistrings and my Carvin Bunny Brunel with La Bella Gold flats. My multi-scale DAZ (local young luthier) sounds really Nice with La Bella White Nylon Gold and also nicely with La Bella Deep Talking. I recently got used an Epiphone Zenith strung with Fender tapes wich souds really good, close to a double bass (a bit different anyway despite an additional equalisation). I did not try another set on this Epiphone. But the conclusion for the Dunlop is that they are the more versatile ones for my taste, despite some other types may sound a bit better on some basses (for my taste, or simply provide a different but pleasant sound). But if I had to string all my basses with only one type, I would use the Dunlop.
